Submitted 03/01/2020 - 10:34am

Akram & Associates, a boutique Public Accounting Firm specialising in accounting, audit and tax services to alternative investment entities, had another successful year in 2019, growing 40 per cent. The firm is targeting double-digit growth again in 2020.

The firm has also added five additional full time tax and audit professionals in North Carolina office for 2020 tax season including CPA and CFA to service clients in the alternative investment industry.

Matthew Markoff, CPA, has recently joined Akram CPA Firm after working several years with local and regional CPA Firms in Florida and North Carolina. Matthew earned a Bachelor of Accounting from Fairleigh Dickinson University in Madison, New Jersey. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the North Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants (NCACPA). Matthew specialises in high net worth taxation and planning and has an eye for finding every last deduction and credit available, many times finding those that previous CPA’s had missed. Matt has been servicing hedge funds and other alternative investment entities on tax matters.

Lu Yang, CPA & CFA, is an industry veteran and has started working for Akram in January 2020. Before started working for Akram, she had worked with KPMG, Tokyo and fixed income and convertible arbitrage hedge funds (Argent and Silverback Asset Management) based out of Chapel Hill, NC in addition to DUMAC (Duke University) LLC. She earned a Master of Business administration from University of southern California-Marshall School of business in 1999.

Iris Wang, CPA, joined Akram in 2019. She earned a Master of Science in accounting from State University of New York at Binghamton. She had obtained her New Jersey CPA license and North Carolina CPA License. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the North Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants (NCACPA). She has been servicing family office, hedge funds, venture capital, and private equity fund clients from our NC office.

The other full time professional staff who joined Akram & Associates for 2020 tax season are Annie Kelsey, and Ebony McCoy.
