Aspex Management, established by Hermes Li as a family office, has opened its long/short Asia equity-focused fund to outside investors.
Hong Kong-headquartered Aspex is already trading several hundred million sourced from global investors, sources familiar with the matter told AsiaHedge.
A number of allocators said the group is very selective as to who it will accept money from.
The firm declined to comment on the capital raising.
Li, who previously ran Och Ziff Asset Management’s Asia Master Fund for several years, began trading last year managing only internal money.
Before Och Ziff, Li worked at Goldman Sachs where he was executive director for the FICC division managing capital structure trading portfolio covering equities, convertible, and high yield investments.
