The former CEO of Rosen Capital Advisors has started her own private placement firm, HFM InvestHedge has learnt.
Mahsa Zeinali, who was a managing partner at the Los Angeles-based CTA since its 2003 inception, launched Sunset Capital Partners last month after leaving in January.
Sunset is in the process of raising capital for a single-family residential platform from US and Middle Eastern investors.
Once that deal is completed, Zeinali is open to working with other alternative investment managers but would also consider taking another in-house business development role, she told HFM InvestHedge.
Prior to joining Rosen, which she still represents, Zeinali held analyst roles at Maguire Asset Management, Sage Group and Houlihan Lokey.
Rosen founder and president Kyle Rosen has resumed being CEO, having held the position at the CTA and its predecessor, Rosen Capital Management, before hiring Zeinali, a spokesperson confirmed.
During Zeinali’s stint at Rosen, she helped bring firm AuM from $10m to a peak of $150m, HFM InvestHedge understands. The firm managed just over $100m as of 31 December 2018, according to its latest Form ADV brochure.
The Rosen V Master Fund, which runs an option volatility arbitrage strategy, has only had one down year since it was launched in 2013, losing 1.3% in 2014, according to performance data seen by HFM InvestHedge. Last year it was up by 4%, although it had a difficult December, dropping 13.8% in that month.
