Fieldfisher hires new Head of Funds

Submitted 05/05/2021 - 1:50pm

Private funds specialist, Dale Gabbert has joined European law firm Fieldfisher as Head of Funds. He joins from Simmons & Simmons where he was a funds partner since 2014, specialising in private equity, infrastructure, credit and hedge funds.

Gabbert represents a diverse range of sponsors, from boutiques to banks, on fund establishment and advises sophisticated investors in funds including pension schemes, family offices and sovereign wealth funds. He also assists clients on governance and disputes and handles corporate transactions such as seeding deals, joint ventures, spin outs and acquisitions. Gabbert is known in the market for advising on innovative asset classes, including agricultural commodity infrastructure, art and gambling technology and for his skill in resolving difficult or contentious issues for clients.

Co-Head of the Financial Markets and Products Group at Fieldfisher Guy Usher says: "We are very pleased to have Dale join us. Although we have had a funds practice for many years and are well known for mutual funds work, we have not kept pace with the growth of the rest of the firm and Dale fixes that for us overnight."

Previously a partner at Reed Smith, where he headed that firm's Middle East and Africa funds practice, and Nabarro, Gabbert studied law at the London School of Economics and gained a Master of Laws at University of London.

Gabbert says: "Fieldfisher has always had a well-regarded funds practice and I am excited to join and lead the practice, focusing on private equity, credit and infrastructure funds and exotic strategies.

"Guy and I intend to significantly scale up the private funds side of the practice and I look forward to sharing my expertise with the Fieldfisher team and client base. Fieldfisher is an exceptionally well run firm and my clients are excited about what Fieldfisher can do for them in London and across their European network."
