TRANSCRIPT Hello, I'm Andrea Alms and technology investor and financial manager, and this is your Money in motion from May 5th through the eighth. The 27th annual Global Conference is held. As you may know, Michael Milken is a billionaire and philanthropist mainly known for pioneering the junk bond craze of the 1980s. Nicknamed the Junk Bond King, Milken, while working as an executive at the investment bank Drexel, Burnham and Lambert became famous for getting companies with lower credit rates access to capital.
The Milken Institute announced new initiatives to shape the future of health through partnerships and collaborations. At its 2024 Global conference in Los Angeles, the new initiatives built on the institute's long standing advancement initiatives to prevent health and community based biomedical research. One initiative, called Prevention and Innovation Project prevent focus on the long known that health systems issues and challenges that it must focus on preventing illnesses rather than treating illnesses.
At this critical moment, as health systems consider moves towards prevention first models making this shift needs practical evidence solutions that can help overcome the hurdles to long term action. Another initiative is called Community Based Research and Rich CT, which stands for Enabling Networks of Research Infrastructure for Community Health through Clinical Trials. It's a multi-stakeholder initiative focused on driving dialog and advancing practical solutions for ways the public and private sectors can support more infrastructure in the U.S. for more inclusive clinical research.
The third initiative is called Food Systems A blueprint for employer sponsored Food as Health Benefit. The Milken Institute's Feeding Change is launching a new project to develop a blueprint to accelerate employer sponsored food as a health benefit to support employees whole person health as employer sponsored insurance. Around 155 million people across the U.S. this is an immense opportunity to catalyze a private sector movement to expand access to food.
