Summary
Tottenham Hotspur has initiated contingency planning following Arne Slot's explicit rejection of the manager position. The Feyenoord boss publicly declined the opportunity in an interview with Algemeen Dagblad, stating his preference to "continue to build on the foundations that have been laid over the past two seasons" rather than pursue a move to the Premier League club.
In response, chairman Daniel Levy has identified Vincenzo Italiano as a primary alternative candidate. The 45-year-old Italian tactician brings substantial European credentials, having led Fiorentina to the Europa Conference League final—a significant achievement that aligns with Tottenham's continental aspirations. Italiano has managed Fiorentina since June 2021, guiding the club to seventh-place finishes in Serie A while prioritizing European competition. His managerial record spans 300 matches with a win ratio of 44.67%, demonstrating consistent performance across his career trajectory.
Fiorentina's current Serie A standing of 11th place reflects the organizational trade-off between domestic league performance and European progression—a strategic choice that mirrors potential expectations at Tottenham. The club's European focus this season has created league inconsistency, yet the achievement of reaching a continental final provides tactical validation for Italiano's methodology.
Tottenham is not limiting its search to a single candidate. Fulham manager Marco Silva remains under consideration as part of a broader shortlist, providing Levy with multiple options as he addresses the club's managerial vacancy. The urgency of securing a replacement reflects Tottenham's current organizational limbo, with Levy tasked with identifying a leader capable of delivering both immediate competitive results and sustainable institutional development for the North London franchise.
