Summary
The alternatives and multi-asset strategies (MAS) franchise posted its seventh consecutive quarter of growth, generating $15bn of net inflows in the quarter ended 30 September. That figure includes the onboarding of around $12bn of commercial mortgage loans (CML), which had been highlighted in the prior quarter. The firm stated that its alternatives/MAS business also grew organically across all three channels even excluding the CML mandate.
Private markets AUM reached $105bn, up 33 per cent year-over-year, surpassing the upper end of the firm's 2027 target range. Total AUM ended the quarter lower at $900.4bn, down $5.1bn or one per cent from 30 June, as the retail channel saw third-quarter net outflows of $8.4bn. AllianceBernstein ended the quarter with approximately $13bn of institutional pipeline AUM.
Chief executive Seth Bernstein said the results reflected an accelerated pace of deployments, as greater operating efficiency continues to shorten the time from commitment to funding. He cited execution across insurance, private markets, separately managed accounts (SMAs) and ETFs, and said the firm continued to scale capabilities across private credit, private placements and asset-based finance. Bernstein described insurance capital as a means to seed and scale differentiated private market capabilities that can then be extended to third-party insurance, wealth and retirement clients, and said the firm believes it is well positioned for durable organic growth.
